Conference Kick-off Social Hour

RainBird is hosting the kick-off happy hour & dinner at the Embassy Suites Hotel, along with a 1½ hour presentation entitled: The Intelligent Use of Water: New & Innovative Irrigation Products and Approaches. The presentation will focus on water conservation within irrigation and how to incorporate these methods into LEED projects. 

There will be an AWESOME door prize! Don’t miss it! Time and meeting room details to be announced. Casual business attire is appropriate.

City and Area Tours  

The Legends at Village West Tour

The Legends at Village West is a lifestyle and entertainment center locate in the Village West Development in Kansas City, Kansas. Village West has become the single largest tourist destination in the State of Kansas. Attractions within the development include Cabela’s Outfitters, Nebraska Furniture Mart, The Great Wolf Lodge and Indoor Water Park, Kansas City T-Bones Baseball and the Kansas Speedway hosting both Indy Car and NASCAR events annually.

The Legends offers specialty stores, unique retail shopping, entertainment and dining venues all located within an open air lifestyle venue. The name of the center comes from the celebration of Kansas Legends. These Kansans excelled in art, history, politics, statesmanship, science, invention, exploration and athletics. In all, there are over eighty tributes to legendary Kansans in a variety of statues, portraits and medallions. In addition, The Legends highlights the unique character of the State of Kansas with native landscape and images.

JC Nichols Plaza Walking Tour

The famous Country Club Plaza is much more than the nation’s first suburban shopping district.  When J.C. Nichols began building the Plaza in the early 1920’s, he created an outdoor museum inspired by the architectural beauty of Seville, Spain. 

Guests will spend the afternoon surrounded by tile-roofed buildings, more than 40 fountains, 50 sculptured works of art, and over 170 shops, boutiques, and restaurants.  This tour will proceed along the lovely tree-lined streets and courtyards of the Plaza as we will view the outdoor art, beginning with the magnificent Nichols Memorial Fountain.  Guests should wear comfortable walking shoes.

End-of-the-Day Social and Student Portfolio Forum

Student Portfolio Forum, Please plan on attending this social event where you, the professional, will get a chance to talk with landscape architecture students from one or more of these universities; Iowa State, Kansas State, North Dakota State, Oklahoma State and the University of Oklahoma. Students will get a chance to talk with firms from the major design centers in our region such as Kansas City, Des Moines, St. Louis, Omaha, and Tulsa. Light snacks and open bar will be provided and the students will have their portfolios displayed for review and comment. This is a great opportunity to network and potentially meet with your next employee or employer.

Kansas City Boulevards and Beyond Tour

George E. Kessler’s legacy of tree-lined boulevards promoted a nodal pattern of growth in Kansas City, disbursed automobile traffic evenly throughout the City’s traffic grid, and distributed urban aesthetics throughout many diverse neighborhoods.  Guests will tour some of the boulevards by bus, learn more about one of our nation’s first landscape architects, and discover what is new along the boulevards.  The Boulevards tour will include a visit to North Terrace Park Concourse, the 18th & Vine District, and the Kansas City Sculpture Garden. Our tour will end at McCoy’s Public House for after-tour libations (4057 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO)
